A group of community activists led by Cllr Matthew Dorrance worked to clean up Brecon Cemetery yesterday (Sunday 14th April 2019).

The Cemetery “Spring Clean” was organised by the St John Ward Councillor after residents raised concerns with him about the County Council’s poor management of the area.

Cllr Matthew Dorrance said:

“Powys County Council’s decision to remove the bins from the Cemetery is causing real problems and making this important place untidy but sadly, they refuse to reinstate the bins or help tackle the problems they’ve created.

“I’m really pleased that residents and Town Councillors joined me to help clean this area up and we collected more than ten sacks of rubbish in less than two hours.

“I will be organising a Friends of Brecon Cemetery group to undertake regular litter picking sessions and to keep a closer eye on the area.

“Once again, I’m calling on Powys County Council to do their bit and put the bins back at Brecon Cemetery.”
