A campaign to save the community cashpoint at Pendre Post Office is underway after Post Office Limited announced its plans to withdraw the well-used facility.

The free to use cashpoint, located in the Spar Shop (Bryn de Winton), provides the community with vital access to cash. The withdrawal of the service will make it harder for local families and older people to access their money.

Now Post Office Limited are facing a fightback from the community led by local County Councillor Matthew Dorrance and Town Councillors Rob Thomas and Marie Matthews who oppose the plans.

A community petition has been launched which calls on post office bosses to ditch the decision.

Local St John Ward Councillor Matthew Dorrance said:

“It’s really important that we protect local services like this cashpoint for our community.

“This free to use cashpoint means residents can get access to their money when they need it without having to pay fees or journey into the town centre.

“St John Ward is the most populated ward in Powys.  We are fortunate to have young families and older people living alongside each other and thankfully the Council is building more homes here.  Our community is growing and the Spar shop and the services it offers are a cornerstone of this community.

“I’m standing alongside Jay and campaigning to save the community cashpoint.  We will fight plans to withdraw it all the way.”
