Commenting on the announcement from Powys County Council, which confirmed that the Regimental Museum of the Royal Welsh has withdrawn from plans to buy the old library on Ship Street in Brecon, Brecon’s County Councillors Liz Rijnenberg, Matthew Dorrance and David Meredith said:

This is worrying news for our community and the local economy. The Regimental Museum and its collection are of national significance and we urge the Council to work with trustees and partners to help secure its future in Brecon.

“However, the old library on Ship Street is deteriorating after years of neglect and the County Council also needs to bring forward a plan for its future without delay.

“In December we asked the Council Leader and the Chief Executive for an urgent meeting to discuss local concerns. We also asked them to bring forward a plan of action but sadly they didn’t want to engage with us.

“The Council can’t stick its head in the sand and hope someone else will solve this problem.  It’s their responsibility to make sure this building doesn’t languish further.”
