The Council must back our young people
The Council must back our young people

Brecon’s St John Ward Councillor, Matthew Dorrance, has criticised a decision by Powys County Council which excludes Brecon from its Easter Holidays Activities programme for young people aged 5-17 years old.

Ystradgynlais, Llandrindod Wells, Newtown and Welshpool will all benefit from an organised programme of activities, but Brecon has been excluded by Powys County Council.

Local Councillor Matthew Dorrance has taken the issue up with Powys County Council’s Cabinet.  The St John Ward Councillor has used a Question to the Cabinet Member for Young People to make clear that he thinks Brecon should be included.  He’s asked the Cabinet Member to explain why the town isn’t included and how local young people can take part.

Cllr Matthew Dorrance said:

“Young people in Brecon deserve the opportunity to learn, grow and develop. The County Council’s decision to exclude Brecon from its Easter Holidays Activity Programme is unfair on the young people in our community.

“I’ve asked the Cabinet Member for Young People to explain why her plans don’t include Brecon and I’ve asked her to think about how young people in Brecon can take part in the programme of activities.

“The Council has enough time to put this right and I am urging them to organise activities for our young people.”
