New grant funding from the Welsh Government and Brecon Town Council has been secured to improve play facilities for children and young people at Pendre Park.
The park, which is located next to Priory Church in Wales Primary School on the edge of The Groves, will benefit from a total investment of just under £90,000. This is made up of grant funding from the Welsh Government worth £74,920 and a contribution of £15,000 from Brecon Town Council.
Work to plan the improvements is already underway and consultation with the community will take place later this month. It is hoped the project will be completed by March 2022.
The investment comes after St John Ward County Councillor Matthew Dorrance worked to secure funding with partners at Powys County Council and Brecon Town Council.
St John Ward Councillor Matthew Dorrance said:
“Pendre Play Park will finally get a major upgrade because of this significant funding, and I am really pleased that the work I have done to make the case for investment in our local play parks is paying off.
“This investment will help us improve the local play park for children and young people in Brecon and that is long overdue.
“It is fantastic news for our community. I am very grateful to the Welsh Government and the Town Council for awarding us the funding to improve play facilities for children in Brecon.”
Priory Church in Wales School Headteacher Mrs Lynsey McCrohen said:
“As a school community we are thrilled that this poorly stocked playground and empty patch of land will now be developed into an area where our families and children can enjoy themselves, have fun and enjoy being outdoors.
“At Priory Church in Wales School we place a high value on health and well-being and are thrilled that families can share a place on weekends, holidays and after school where they can meet up, let the children play outside and be happy.”
Brecon Town Councillor Chris Walsh added:
“I can’t wait to see the difference the improvements to this local park make for children and families in Brecon and I am pleased that Brecon Town Council is able to help deliver for the local community.”
