A special event to mark the 75th birthday of our NHS will be held at the Muse in Brecon on Wednesday 5th July.

The NHS birthday party is being organised by Brecon’s Labour County Councillors and it will raise funds for the Breconshire War Memorial Hospital League of Friends.

Doors will open at 9.30am and the event will include a raffle and stalls selling plants, books and delicious cakes.

The introduction of the National Health Service was spearheaded by the post-war Labour Government’s Health Minister Nye Bevan.

Cllr Matthew Dorrance said: “Our NHS is a national treasure, and it has transformed our country, removing the anxiety of illness from millions of families.

“On 5th July our NHS celebrates its 75th Birthday and you are invited to help mark this important birthday by joining us at the Muse on Glamorgan Street for this special celebration.

“So please come along, share your memories and your experiences as we join together to pay tribute to our wonderful NHS.”

“This really is a community celebration for our NHS and Nye Bevan’s enduring vision” said Cllr David Meredith.

Cllr Liz Rijnenberg said: “Seventy-five years of healthcare free at the point of access is worth celebrating and our NHS is the best in the world. Come and celebrate with us on 5th July.”

“Congratulations to our NHS on this important birthday and thank you to all those who work in it” added Cllr Chris Walsh.
