Brecon’s St John Ward Councillor Matthew Dorrance has asked Powys County Council to consider plans to improve local bus services for communities across the County.

In a letter to the Council’s Leader, Cllr Dorrance has called on the Conservative and Independent-run Council to seriously investigate setting up a municipal bus service, run by Powys for Powys.

Cllr Matthew Dorrance said:

“Bus services are vital for the future prosperity of our county.

“But too often the system works against people and against our communities. Too few people are able to access good quality reliable transport links.

“The old system of profit before people has created a poverty of access in Powys. But the Council is uniquely placed to tackle the problem if it can force itself to look for progressive solutions to the problems we face.

“I believe that a municipal bus service, run by Powys for Powys, is worth considering.  Connecting communities, creating better access to services and using the opportunity to invest profits in improving local transport services – new routes, greener buses, and cheaper fares – must be a priority for the Council.”
